Road Trip Rip

Southern Sierras - February, 2009

miles driven: ~540

photos taken: ~720

So all my Personal Traveling Buddy wanted for Christmas was a fun snow-play weekend while staying in a "cabin" (instead of our usual camping). Well, what a weekend we picked! We had to wait for one wave of the "storm of the year" to pass just to travel up to the mountains. About 2 feet of fresh powdery snow greeted us when we got there. We got our snowshoes on and explored the area on the first day. It was sunny blue skies all over. The next day we tried cross-country skiing. It was the first time for either of us to do that, and we agreed that it was a lot more work than we thought it would be. That's o.k.

The second wave of the "storm of the year" came in that night and delayed our departure for a day. I can't say we were too bummed about being stuck there for another day! The snow was still coming down in full force as we left, but at least the roads were open.
