Road Trip Rip

Zion National Park - November, 2008

miles driven: ~1000

photos taken: ~1200

I scared up a group of seven people to backpack the West Rim Trail in Zion National Park in Utah over the Thanksgiving weekend. It rained for much of the drive to the park, but the weather cleared on the morning that we were to start on the trail. We were warned by the backcountry park ranger that we might have trouble getting to the start of the trail due to snow. Whatever! The road was as clear as it could be. However, the trail had a good layer of snow starting around 6,800 feet. Most of the trail was around 7,000 feet, so we slogged through snow and LOTS of mud for a few days. The last day of the trail was quite the climax as we descended 3,000 feet into Zion Canyon.
