The Great American Eclipse - August, 2017
miles driven: ~2000
photos taken: ~800 (on 5 different cameras)
The Road Trip Rip crew had the ultimate adventure - seeing totality during the Great American Eclipse of 2017!!!
Months of planning went into this adventure. We needed to know what kind of photos we wanted, which cameras/lenses would be used to capture the different kinds of photos, where we wanted to go to see the eclipse, and how to be self-sufficient given all the predictions of people traveling to eastern Oregon to witness the eclipse.
We started practicing taking solar photos in June, but that was the easy part. We had never experienced a total solar eclipse, so we did research to learn how to bracket exposures for totality. After making complete schedules of our extensive photography setup, we went through a "rehearsal" of the photography the day before the eclipse.
We were super fortunate in finding a great place to view the eclipse about a half a mile off the centerline of totality (near Unity, OR) and having perfectly clear weather. Actually, the whole adventure went extremely well, so we don't have any crazy stories to tell. However, I did compose a video that includes some of the still photos from below along with time-lapse videos. Check it out!
