Death Valley National Park - March, 2010
miles driven: ~650
photos taken: ~590 + ~520 aerial
Death Valley National Park was this weekend's adventure. I hit Zabriske Point on Saturday morning along with a whole flock of other people with cameras, of whom I took photos to amuse myself. Then it was up to Dante's View. I've got a 180-degree panorama posted from there -- the 360-degree panorama wasn't as much fun.
I then headed off to Eureka Dunes. Not many people seem to know about this little spot in Death Valley. It's a 700-foot-tall mountain of sand! I'm guessing that the winds were a sustained 50 mph on the dunes Saturday evening. Holy moly. Sunday was almost completley calm, so I took my little airplane all the way to the top for some aerial photos from above the dunes.
At Eureka Dunes I met David Page, a super nice guy that wrote a guidebook to Yosemite and the Southern Sierra Nevada. Check it out!
